Naming Ceremonies

Naming ceremonies can be held for anyone, at any stage of their life. Naming ceremonies are most often conducted for babies as a way of welcoming them to the world. But there are many other reasons a naming ceremony might be held.

It may be as part of a wedding ceremony, where the couple have children who will be uniting in a blended family as a result of the marriage. It may be for an adult who has changed their name and wishes to reintroduce themselves to their extended family and community. Whatever the reason, naming ceremonies provide a beautiful alternative to a religious ceremony.

Many people in our society are now choosing not to join organised religions, but still wish to celebrate the beginning of their child’s life and welcome them into the world. As naming ceremonies don’t initiate the child into a specific religion, they give the child the opportunity to choose their own spiritual direction at a later stage in their life.

The ceremony can include other family members, friends, godparents or guardians and I can provide you with examples of special rituals or symbols that can be incorporated into the ceremony. Together, we can plan a ceremony just for you – it can be lighthearted and fun or more traditional.

As with every ceremony, I strive to make the day as personal and unique for you as possible. I will work with you to incorporate details that are significant to you to make the day truly memorable. With young children, timing is crucial to ensure the baby is happy (and awake) so I plan with you to arrange a time that is suitable.

Please feel free to contact me and arrange a free no-obligation meeting where we can discuss what I can do to help you celebrate this momentous occasion.
